Hello
My name is Jack and I'm a webmaster by profession. I happened to visit your site http://cottagenews.ca while surfing over the internet.
The sort of work you've done is simply WOW! Very few people here on internet are doing real great work. Hence, I'm compelled to make
you an interesting advertising offer. I'm basically interested in buying a few text based ads on your site. Let's discuss it further.
Waiting for a positive reply
Good Day
Jack

As a cottage owner renting out our family cottage for the first time this year, I was thrilled to come across your site. I have included your blogsite in my information package for our first time renters. The insite and details that you provide will give any first time renter a clear understanding of what to expect from their experience and what the owner in return expects from their rentors. Bravo and thank-you for your hard work. I have included a link from my blog back to this site.

[...] What if I change my mind after I book? Check the cancellation policy carefully before making a booking. If there is a chance you might change your mind, or have to cancel for any reason, take our travel insurance. It doesn’t cost a lot and gives you peace of mind. Some owners may allow you to change dates but expect an agency to charge an administration fee for a change. There’s more on this here. [...]

I'm really in favour of a rating system too. I hear so many horror stories of renters arriving to the cottage that was so wonderfully described in the listing, only to find it bears little relation to it. Different furniture, misrepresented waterfront, and features that were listed, not being there....it all adds up to a pretty miserable experience.

The difficulty is with every property being so unique. It makes assessing for a rating very subjective. How could you rate rocky waterfront with deep water for diving, against a sandy beach with a shallow walkout, as each could be equally attractive depending on the individual needs of the rental clients? A better way could be to have owners agreeing to an independent review and assessment by an unbiased third party. Cottages managed by agencies already receive this independent review, but it would have to be a voluntary submission by owners renting privately.

It's an interesting concept and I'd like to know how many owners would subscribe to something like this.

Hi Heather,
I think it is just great that you profile specific cottages. It makes renters' lives so much easier when they are trying to decide on a property.

I've often wished there was a rating system for rentals similar to hotels. That way you had a better idea what you are getting into. Online photos only tell half the story.

Great article.

Cheers,
Julie
